Raemelton Therapeutic Equestrian Center was founded in 1995 as a non-profit organization dedicated to providing therapeutic riding for the handicapped. Since opening its doors it has grown from serving a small group of thirteen riders, to serving more than 100 students a week. The therapeutic riding center is located on the grounds of a former polo farm in Mansfield, Ohio. The Raemelton facilities include an outdoor riding arena, an indoor riding arena with a heated viewing room, two stables and ample pasture space.
The mission of Raemelton Therapeutic Equestrian Center is to provide therapeutic riding for the handicapped. This is primarily accomplished through weekly or bi-weekly therapy sessions on horse back. Horse back riding gently and rhythmically moves the body in a manner similar to human walking. Riders with impaired mobility are taught balance, coordination, and self assurance while receiving muscle stimulation. Individuals with learning or mental disabilities are motivated to increase concentration, patience and discipline. The unique bond formed with the horse also can improve interpersonal relationships for those with psychological and/or emotional disabilities.
